Bosun Lawal Celtic pre season chance as EFL Championship clubs wait in wings

Bosun Lawal is to be given a shot in pre-season to impress Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

The Irishman, 21, enjoyed a strong campaign on loan this season at Fleetwood Town where he played in midfield at times. His natural position is at centre-half, though, and the Hoops have struggled in that area this term with the likes of Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki struggling to hold down a jersey.




Football Scotland understands Lawal has a number of interested clubs in the EFL Championship down south waiting for the green-light to make a loan swoop for the player. But sources indicate that he will remain in Glasgow for pre-season to see how he fits in with the first-team squad.

The interest from England’s second tier for the coming season is an indicator of how far Lawal has come since he arrived at Parkhead from Watford in 2021.

He has since been called into the Republic of Ireland’s A team this week for coming games during a friendly double-header against Hungary and Portugal.

Meanwhile Football Scotland understands Tottenham have NOT entered the race for Daniel Kelly.

The young Scot is still awaiting further discussions with Celtic’s hierarchy about a new deal despite legitimate interest from Manchester United. We at Football Scotland exclusively revealed to you that Bayer Leverkusen have made a formal approach for the talent but Celts want to keep him around.

Kelly’s preference, Football Scotland understands, is to sign a new contract with Rodgers’ side. But nothing has been completed yet.
