Canadiens: Michael Hage Moves into Michigan U

The University of Michigan men’s ice hockey account has been active like many other NCAA accounts before the start of preseason and end of Summer training. The 21st overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens in this year’s draft, Michael Hage, has been featured frequently as of late.

The forward out of Mississauga, Ontario was seen in a post from move-in day two days ago. He posed alongside Wolverines teammate Dakoda Rhéaume Mullen (son of goaltender Manon Rhéaume, the only woman to ever dress for NHL action in a Tampa Bay Lighting preseason game in September 1992).

Yesterday, the attacker was seen on the ice for the first ProBlue skate.

In July, Hage spoke about being unable to attend the Montreal Canadiens training camp this September because of his obvious duties committing to Michigan’s program and that their training camp takes priority. He impressed many at Habs development camp, especially in the scrimmage wherein he tallied two assists and a goal.

Before being drafted, Hage spent two years in the USHL with the Chicago Steel garnering 38 goals and 85 points in 67 regular season games.

He was recently seen in the Montreal Canadiens behind-the-scenes draft video as well. Naturally, given that he was a first-round draft pick, the video focused in part on him as well as other notable draft selections, such as fifth-overall pick Ivan Demidov.

In his pre-draft interview with Montreal, Hage was asked about the importance of family to him. He promptly spoke on the impact his parents—who are both from La Belle Province—had in his upbringing, as well as his little brother Alexander.

The forward was then asked by consultant and sports psychologist Dr. David Scott a difficult question for many to answer. Last year, Hage’s father Alain tragically passed away in a pool accident. Scott talked about a young boy he knows who recently lost his father as well. The question was simply what advice would Hage give the youngster.

Hage’s answer is not only incredibly mature but well-thought-out too. I won’t reveal the answer, but I strongly urge you to go watch the video. The question is asked at the 5:30 mark.
