Canucks Gameday Preview #39: Kicking Off A Five-Game Road Trip In Montréal

The Vancouver Canucks (18-12-8) kick off a five-game road trip when they battle the Montréal Canadiens on Monday night. Vancouver will be looking to rebound after a tough 3-0 loss to the Nashville Predators on Friday and may be getting some reinforcement in the form of Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes. As for the Canadiens, they have been on a roll as of late, winning four of their last five, including a 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.

One of the keys for Vancouver will be to hold onto possession and limit turnovers. Montréal is a fast team and features plenty of talented young stars who can use their speed to create odd-man rushes. If the Canucks  can slow the game down, they might be able to frustrate the Canadiens, which could lead to scoring chances.

Vincent Desharnais:

After a tough start to the season, Vincent Desharnais has finally found his groove. He played over 22 minutes versus the Predators and even saw some action in overtime a few nights ago against the Seattle Kraken. If Desharnais and his partner, Derek Forbort, can keep Montréal’s forwards in check, it will go a long way in securing a victory.

Lane Hutson:

One of the Calder Trophy favourites this season is defenceman Lane Hutson. The 20-year-old has 27 points in 39 games and is already averaging over 22 minutes a night. A dynamic puck mover, Vancouver will need to ensure their forwards pressure him at all times and do not give him time and space in open ice.
