Carter Verhaeghe has consistently provided the Panthers with clutch moments

Coming up with big performances during clutch moments is not an easy thing for any athlete to do.

It’s why the very best are the ones who are relied on during those crucial times, when the game is on the line and its truly do or die time.

Being known as a clutch performer is a moniker that any player would love to have.

If we’re talking about the Florida Panthers, there is one name that is going to immediately come to mind when talking about who on the team comes up big in the clutch.

On a team that has stars like Matthew Tkachuk, Sasha Barkov and Sam Reinhart, the man who has that “clutch gene” (if you ask his teammates) is Carter Verhaeghe.

Last season, when Verhaeghe scored 34 goals for the Panthers, 19 of them came during the third period or overtime.

During his four years with the Panthers, Verhaeghe has played in 61 playoff games and scored in 26 of them.

Ten of those 26 goals were game-winners, and four of them came during sudden-death overtime, including two series-clinching goals, both on the road, one of which coming in a Game 7.

As Verhaeghe prepares to enter his fifth season with the Panthers, let’s take a moment and appreciate the great player and person that the man they call Swaggy has been to South Florida and the Cats.
