Job title: Clerk of Works

Salary: SCP 36-39 (£44,565-£48,660) per annum

Contract: Permanent

Work pattern: 35 hours per week, Monday-Friday

Location: Agile home-based worker largely covering Group (Central belt, East and South with travel to and from Wheatley offices and new build sites as and when required).

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest developers of affordable housing in the UK.

The postholder will inspect works on site and throughout the defects period. They will provide advice and liaise with all internal and external stakeholders, issue weekly reports and highlight issues of non-compliance with the project and development team.

They will also work with housing teams to rectify defects.

Who are we looking for?

Due to the wide-ranging and varied nature of the projects we undertake, we are looking for a candidate with proven experience in new housing projects diverse in size and complexity.

You will also have a sound knowledge of dealing with contractors and developers, excellent communication skills, the ability to self-manage and a capacity for effective decision-making under pressure. 

The successful candidate will have expertise in the following areas: 

  • inspecting progress and quality of construction works for compliance with required design and specification standards, through all stages of new housing projects; 
  • maintaining accurate and reliable records of works on site, and providing regular project progress reports to the development colleagues;
  • providing technical comments on contract drawings, construction details, specification clauses, etc. prior to site start; 
  • liaising with housing management staff, tenants and others on completion procedures and handover processes for completed houses; 
  • provision of feedback on lessons to be learned at project completion; 
  • developing and maintaining effective working relationships with contractors, developers, consultants, housing staff and development team colleagues; 
  • contributing to the review and update of standard briefs, technical specifications and development procedures; and
  • the use of Information technology when submitting and receiving reports e.g. mobile/tablet, laptop etc.  

A relevant qualification in a related discipline is essential e.g. Sco/tec, ONC, HNC, ICW etc. and a membership of a professional body is Desirable e.g. MICWCI, CIOB, RICS.
