Cowboys owner Jerry Jones surprises ‘Landman’ viewers with cameo on popular TV series
Dallas Cowboys and NFL fans may have been looking for a break after the final weekend of the regular season (which included Dallas’ last-second 23–19 loss to the Washington Commanders). They also may have wanted a diversion from rumors of whether or not head coach Mike McCarthy might be fired.
Tuning into the popular TV series “Landman” on Paramount Plus might typically provide some non-football amusement. However, viewers were likely surprised by Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones making a cameo appearance on Sunday’s episode, the ninth of the series’ debut season.
In the scene, Jones is visiting Monty Miller (played by Jon Hamm), a fellow oil businessman who’s in the hospital after suffering a heart attack. Also in the room is Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton), a lawyer and crisis manager for Miller’s M-Tex Oil.
As an extremely successful businessman in real life, Jones’ presence adds some credibility to the world of “Landman.” He and Miller made their money through similar means and presumably know each other well in the show. It also makes Miller look like a big deal if someone as well-known as Jones is visiting him in the hospital.
These men are contemporaries and Jones is telling his peer how meaningful it was to work with his family. (Also, perhaps delegating some responsibility would be better for Miller’s health, which is obviously compromised.)
For those familiar with Jones and the Cowboys’ front office, his thoughts on bringing his three children into the business ring true. All three are top executives with the team and co-owners of the franchise. His son Stephen is the chief operating officer and director of player personnel. His daughter Charlotte is the chief brand officer. And Jerry Jones Jr. is in charge of sales and marketing.
Jones appearing on a TV drama would seemingly open him to ridicule. But fans were impressed by his appearance and the acting talent he showed in the scene.
Jerry Jones cameo on Landman is the last thing I ever thought I’d want to see. But turns out, Jerry delivered an all-time speech, and I rewatched it twice.
I still can’t stand him btw.

I’m not sure how many cameos Jerry Jones has made in his life, but he just nailed his part in Landman. It was like a real conversation with an old timer giving good advice.

Judging by the praise Jones drew for his performance, perhaps he can expect to have a recurring role on the series. Writer Taylor Sheridan might be getting to work on that right now. And maybe he can get some perks from the Cowboys in the process.
Several Cowboys fans might hope Jones gets a taste for acting and decides to devote some of his time to that, rather than running the team. Maybe after a decision is made on McCarthy’s status, though.
