Devils trade defenseman John Marino to Utah Hockey Club

The Devils have traded defenseman John Marino and a fifth-round pick (No. 153) to the Utah Hockey Club in exchange for the No. 49 pick in the 2024 NHL Draft and Edmonton‘s 2025 second-round pick, the team announced.

New Jersey used the second-round pick on the top-ranked North American goaltender Mikhail Yegorov of the Omaha Lancers (USHL).

Marino, 27, was drafted in the fifth-round by the Oilers in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and eventually made his debut with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2019 after playing college hockey at Harvard.

He was traded to the Devils on July 16, 2022 in exchange for Ty Smith and a 2023 third-round pick.

Marino played in 139 games for New Jersey over two seasons, including 75 last season, recording eight goals and 35 assists. Over 328 games in five NHL seasons, Marino has amassed 18 goals with 89 assists and owns a +38 plus/minus.
