Douglas Ross has ‘serious questions to answer’ over travel expenses

Douglas Ross is facing “very significant” allegations that he used Westminster expenses to travel for his other job as an assistant referee, the first minister has said.

John Swinney claimed that he did not wish to “jump to conclusions” over the conduct of the Scottish Tory leader. However, the SNP leader, campaigning in Paisley, said that his Holyrood rival had “serious” questions to answer.

Ross has been under pressure ever since he announced he would replace a sick colleague, David Duguid, as a candidate in next month’s general election.

Reports in the Sunday Mail claim that Ross’s advisers flagged concerns about 28 parliamentary travel claims which may have been combined with his football work. Details of the trips are understood to have been revealed
