Ewan McGregor sends Scotland Euro 2024 message after meeting iconic campervan
Scots actor Ewan McGregor has sent Scotland a good luck message ahead of the Euros after bumping into a travelling supporter. The Trainspotting star came across one fan who is powering across Europe in a stunning decked out campervan called Elvis.
A social media profile for John Falkirk posted an image of the Star Wars actor with the vintage Volkswagen vehicle, which has already reached Germany with the iconic camper also spotted in Cologne.
But on route to the city where Scotland will play their second Group A game, John and his van, Elvis, came across McGregor and his old motorcycle pal and actor Charley Boorman in Amsterdam, after they arrived off the Newcastle ferry on Saturday, June 8.
The pair – who filmed two-wheeled travel series Long Way Round, Long Way Down, and Long Way Up, together – were left impressed by the unique motorhome.
“Elvis” has a top deck platform featuring murals of the Scotland national team, and a front banner that reads “Yabba Dabba Doo, We support the boys in blue,” from the 1974 Scotland song ‘Easy Easy’. McGregor and Boorman posed for a picture next to John and his impressive van and took a short clip.
The Trainspotting star said: “Alright Scotland, good luck at the Euros”, then shouted “Woo-hoo!” before pointing back to the van, adding: “Look out for Elvis here.”
John was left starstruck by the chance meeting as she shared the moment to his followers.
John, from Falkirk, said: “Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman wanted to meet Elvis. Just off the ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam.”
John’s eye-catching campervan from German manufacture Volkswagen, features an incredible roof platform.
Pals were left buzzing by the update.
One friend commented: “Class man enjoy Germany.”
Another added: “This is amazing John.”
Whilst one pal joked: “Brilliant, Elvis and Obi-Wan Kenobi together.”
Before setting off for Germany, John sent an open invite to top Scottish musicians for them to come and perform on top of it.
A call-out was made to the likes of Gerry Cinnamon, Calvin Harris and Rod Stewart, with a video of the bus parked next to the Falkirk Stadium.
