Ex-Devils Goalie Signs Big Extension With New Team
Former New Jersey Devils goalie Mackenzie Blackwood has signed a five-year contract extension with the Colorado Avalanche. He will carry a $5.25 million cap hit starting next season.
Blackwood, 28, was traded to the Avalanche by the San Jose Sharks earlier this month. The former Devil will now stay put with the Avalanche long-term after signing this extension.

Blackwood is having a strong 2024-25 season thus far. In 23 games split between the Sharks and Avalanche, he has a 9-10-3 record, a .913 save percentage, and a 2.83 goals-against average. However, he has thrived since being dealt to the Avs, posting a 3-1-0 record, a 2.03 GAA, and a .931 save percentage in his first four appearances.
Blackwood started his NHL career with the Devils after being drafted 42nd overall by the club in 2015. In 152 games over five seasons with New Jersey, he had a 65-57-18 record, a .906 SV%, and a 2.97 GAA.
