But things are looking up for Scots after the country experienced a period of below-average temperatures.

Experts are predicting a spell of warm weather often enjoyed in Mediterranean countries to arrive soon.

The Met Office said: “A gradual trend towards more settled, and warmer weather is then likely into next week, with a small chance that this could persist for several days leading to a spell of hot weather.

“There are a number of other possible scenarios at this range, with details likely to become clearer through this week as we get nearer the event.”

Some forecasters are predicting the mercury could soar to as high as 27C in Glasgow next Thursday.

In Edinburgh it is set to be a bit cooler, but still warm, with a 23C sizzler on Wednesday and Friday.

The weather is set to get gradually warmer in the coming days as the country heats up.

Friday is expected to turn cloudy during the morning, with the chance of a few spots of rain in the afternoon.
