Five things to do in Scotland this week — Young Fathers to opera
Founded 47 years ago by a group that included the poet George Mackay Brown and composer Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, this Orkney festival returns with a broad offering of art forms for just over a week. In her final year as Scots makar, the nature poet Kathleen Jamie will be in conversation with her fellow writer Alison Miller and Scottish Opera is performing pop-ups of Don Giovanni and The Merry Widow. Don’t miss Magnus Mixtape: Morris Begg Duo and The Assembly Project, when a chapel in St Magnus Cathedral will be illuminated with video mapping and special lighting, accompanied by a sequence of music. And look out for films, folk and classical music, visual arts and much more.
