Flyers Goalie Could Impress Big Time

The Philadelphia Flyers will be a fun team to watch during the 2024-25 season. While they are still rebuilding, they have many exciting players to watch, especially rookies Matvei Michkov and Jett Luchanko.

While the Flyers seem to be heading in the right direction, there are some big questions about their goaltending this season. They are entering the campaign with Samuel Ersson and Ivan Fedotov as their netminders. Both goalies are not too experienced at the NHL level, so time will tell how the pair perform together in 2024-25.

Naturally, Ersson has created more chatter, as he is expected to be the team’s starter. However, fans should also not sleep on Fedotov, as he has the potential to be a pleasant surprise for the Metropolitan Division club.

Fedotov, 27, appeared in his first three NHL games last season with the Flyers, recording a 0-1-1 record, a .811 save percentage (SV%), and a 4.95 goals-against average (GAA). While this was not an ideal way for the 6-foot-7 goaltender to begin his NHL career, his strong play at the KHL level suggests he could positively impact Philly.

In 133 career KHL games, Fedotov had a 61-55-8 record, a .921 SV%, and a 2.22 GAA. In addition, during the 2021-22 season, he helped lead CSKA Moscow to the Gagarin Cup.

It will now be fascinating to see how Fedotov performs for the Flyers from here. He could become a key part of the Flyers’ crease if he adjusts to the NHL level well.
