Glasgow travel chaos as roads and train lines flooded amid second weather warning
Glasgow travellers are facing chaos this morning as heavy rain has cancelled trains and flooded roads amid another yellow weather warning.
Trains between Glasgow Central and England have been cancelled on Thursday, May 23, due to major disruption between Preston and Scotland. National Rail reports the West Coast Main Line between Carlisle and Lockerbie is blocked due to flooding with trains from Glasgow terminating at Dumfries.
Operators affected include Avanti West Coast, TransPennine Express, ScotRail and Caledonian Sleeper. Major disruption is expected for the rest of Thursday.

Disruption has also been seen on the roads with some drivers reporting over a foot of water sitting on some roads in the city. In footage shared with Glasgow Live, vehicles can be seen navigating deep waters on Rutherglen Road in the southside.
It comes as more heavy rain is expected today with the yellow warning which began yesterday (Wednesday, May 22) at noon, remaining in place until 6pm today (Thursday, May 23). Residents in affected areas have been warned that “heavy rain may produce some flooding and transport disruption “.
A spokesperson for Avanti West Coast has warned passengers to not attempt to travel between Preston and Scotland. They said: “Please do not attempt to travel with us between Preston and Scotland.
“We’re really sorry if this affects your journey today.”

The company told ticketholders they can travel with other operators such as LNER on the East Coast Main Line, postpone their journey or request a refund.
TransPennine Express commercial director Darren Higgins said: “Due to flooding on the railway line north of Carlisle, train services are significantly disrupted.
“The safety of our customers and colleagues is our priority and we are urging customers not to travel between Manchester, Liverpool (or) Preston to Carlisle, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
“Anyone planning on travelling by train today can choose to defer their travel or claim a refund.”
ScotRail services between Carlisle and Glasgow Central are expected to start/terminate at Dumfries.
The Met Office prediction reads: “An area of heavy rain is expected to move northwest across Scotland from Wednesday afternoon, with rain most persistent across northern and eastern facing high ground. For many areas, rain should gradually become more showery in nature during Thursday, but at the same time, some heavy, slow-moving downpours may develop across parts of southern and eastern Scotland.
“20-40 mm may accumulate quite widely through this period, but in excess of 60 mm is quite possible over some northern and eastern facing high ground. Locally strong and gusty winds through Wednesday evening and early on Thursday may exacerbate any impacts from the rain.”
