Glasgow’s oldest pub going back to 1792 is ‘must visit’ for beer and whisky fans

If you find yourself in Glasgow this summer, then a visit to the city’s “oldest pub” is definitely in order.

to 1792, The Scotia Bar is found in a central position on Stockwell Street close to the River Clyde. Found in the heart of the hustle and bustle, it makes for the perfect stopover.

Stepping inside, The Scotia Bar is bursting with historic features and charm. From its wooden beams and brass fixtures to its cosy fireplace, it almost feels you’ve stepped back centuries in time.

Due to its position near the Clyde, the pub would historically play host to the merchants and sailors transporting goods to and from Glasgow. These days, however, it is more popular amongst the city’s musicians and poets — hosting regular gigs and performances.

Given its long history, it is perhaps unsurprising that The Scotia has welcomed many famous faces over the years. Billy Connelly, Stan Laurel, and ‘Right Down The Line’ singer Gerry Rafferty are just some of the icons who have enjoyed a pint there at one point or another.

In terms of food and drink, The Scotia serves up a wide selection of craft ales, draught beers, wines, and spirits. Meanwhile, dishes on offer range from soups of the day to pizza.

One recent customer described the pub as a “must for any Glasgow visitor”, adding: “Stayed close to this pub so we couldn’t resist a visit.
