Green jobs boost under wind turbine factory plans in freeport
Hundreds of green manufacturing jobs are expected to be created after plans were lodged for a wind turbine blade factory.
Vestas, the Danish group, hopes to build a site in the Leith area of Edinburgh, located inside the boundary of the Forth Green Freeport. The land, to the east of the Imperial Dock, has the potential to be Scotland’s first blade factory.
The Chinese firm Mingyang Smart Energy has already suggested it wants Scotland to be its main European blade manufacturing base but some concerns have been raised.
Businesses moving into the freeport can benefit from tax incentives, providing they meet certain criteria.
The facility would be for producing offshore blades, which are 115 metres in length and made from fibreglass and resin.
