Harris team agrees to second presidential debate – but when it will take place still unclear
WASHINGTON – Vice President Kamala Harris has agreed to a second debate against former President Donald Trump – though when exactly that debate will take place is still up in the air.
The Harris-Walz campaign in a statement Thursday said that “the debate about debates is over. Donald Trump’s campaign accepted our proposal for three debates — two presidential and a vice presidential debate.”
“Assuming Donald Trump actually shows up on September 10 to debate Vice President Harris, then Governor Walz will see JD Vance on October 1 and the American people will have another opportunity to see the vice president and Donald Trump on the debate stage in October,” they wrote.
Both the Trump and Harris campaigns have agreed to hold a debate on Sept. 10. The former president’s campaign also put forth debate dates of Sept. 4 and Sept. 25, with details to be worked out with the Harris campaign.
The Trump campaign did not initially respond to today’s statement from the Harris campaign.
Trump’s running mate Ohio Sen. JD Vance and Harris’ running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz have both agreed to a vice presidential debate on Oct 1 that will be moderated by CBS News. Though Vance also agreed to a CNN debate against Walz on Sept. 11, Walz has yet to confirm his attendance on that one.
