THE importance of a Highland Games taking place in a Wester Ross community this weekend has been celebrated ahead of the big day.
Now in its 44th year, Lochcarron Highland Games takes place on Saturday, July 20 from 11am until 5pm at Attadale Gardens.
The event is being once again supported by Bakkafrost Scotland, headline sponsor for the sixth consecutive year.

Visitors will come together to experience a blend of traditional ‘heavy’ events like hammer throwing and caber tossing, alongside track and field competitions, Highland dancing performances and piping displays.
Attendees can also explore a variety of market stalls offering food and goods to enjoy throughout the day.
The Lochcarron Highland Games is completely driven by the community, involving dedicated teams of volunteers who organise it, as well as local organisations that benefit from its support.
Many community groups benefit from the games, to ensure community support is the Lochcarron Highland Games Association.
During the last year it has supported local community groups including Kintail Mountain Rescue, Lochcarron Shinty team, the Lochcarron Primary school’s Parents’ Association, Lochcarron Sailing Club, the Wester Ross Stags (local Lochcarron basketball team), the Lochcarron Village Hall, the new Lochcarron Centre based in the Howard Doris Building, the local Lochcarron Growing Group as well as an individual athlete.
Joanna Macpherson, chair of Lochcarron Highland Games, said: “We want to thank Bakkafrost Scotland for its continuing, generous support of our Lochcarron Highland Games as our lead sponsor.
“These Games play a vital role in fundraising for the local community. They also provide a wonderful opportunity for family and friends from near and far to return home and meet up again in a fun environment.
“Families can enjoy a day out with their children, not only with inspirational music from the Isle of Skye Pipe Band but they can also take part in their own children’s sporting competitions. The Heavies too are always an intrinsic part of the Highland Games’ experience.
“Big thank you to Gilkes and Kishorn Port for supporting the games”.
Iain MacIntyre, marine director at Bakkafrost Scotland, said: “Our commitment to supporting the communities where we live and work remains strong. Bringing people together is a key part of rural Scotland life.
“We are proud to be the headline sponsor for the Lochcarron Highland Games and look forward to celebrating the cultural richness that the games bring to our community.
“A heartfelt thanks to the volunteers who ensure the event’s success for both local residents and visitors and the community groups which benefit from the fundraising. Best of luck to all participants.”
