Historic Environment Scotland retail framework

Teams selected for the maximum four-year framework will work alongside the executive non-departmental public body to revamp shop units across its 300-property estate which includes major landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle, Skara Brae and Fort George.

The framework is divided into three lots covering retail shop design services; fit out, manufacture and install services; and design and fit out, manufacture and install services. a total of nine teams will be awarded places on the framework.

According to the brief: ‘Historic Environment Scotland Enterprise (HESE), a fully owned subsidiary of HES, requires a contract for the rolling programme of shop improvements across the estate.

‘The aim of this contract is to continue to achieve greater consistency across all sites, in terms of fixtures & fittings used, lighting, use of signage, branding. Better use will be made of the space and visitor reception areas/shops receiving a full refurbishment would be fully DDA compliant.’

Founded in 2015, Historic Environment Scotland is responsible for protecting and promoting the Scotland’s historic environment. The organisation employs more than 1,500 people and maintains more than 300 heritage properties including Knock Castle, Arbroath Abbey, Castle Campbell and Holyrood Palace (pictured).

The latest framework launch comes just a month after the National Trust for Scotland launched a search for a design team for a major conservation and upgrade of Fyvie Castle in Aberdeenshire.

Bids for inclusion on the framework will be evaluated 60 per cent on quality and 40 per cent on cost. Applicants must hold public liability insurance of £10 million, professional indemnity insurance of £1 million and employer’s liability insurance of £5 million.
