Humpback whale surfaces feet from tour boat in Summer Isles

An inquisitive humpback whale has been filmed swimming around a tour boat near Scotland’s Summer Isles.

Guide Steve Truluck said that it was very rare for a humpback to swim so close to a boat in Scottish waters.

“I’ve been doing these tours in Scotland since 2017 and I’ve never seen this here before.

“It truly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Mr Truluck said five humpback whales have been spotted around the Highland archipelago this summer.

It is thought they might be passing through on their migration from the warmer waters of the Caribbean and west Africa to feeding grounds in the North Atlantic.

“You can tell the whales apart from the markings on their tails,” Mr Truluck added.

“This one we’ve named Davies, after Hebridean Whale Cruises owner, Nick Davies.”
