Hungary vs Switzerland lineups: Euro 2024 confirmed team news, predicted XIs, injury latest today

Dominik Szoboszlai is expected to have a starring role today as Hungary begin their Euro 2024 campaign against Switzerland.

The Liverpool star captains his country as they look to improve on their last showing at the European Championship, when they failed to win any of their group-stage matches and suffered an early exit in 2021.

Szoboszlai and Barnabas Varga were Hungary’s joint-top scorers in qualifying and the pressure will be on them to deliver in forward areas, while Milos Kerkez can expected to start at left wing-back after an impressive campaign for Bournemouth.

The experienced Peter Gulacsi will once again start in goal, having recovered from an ACL injury earlier this season, and RB Leipzig team-mate Willi Orban will continue in the centre of defence. It is expected to be the same back-three system for Switzerland, who have not failed to make it out of their group at a major tournament since 2010.

There is no shortage of experience, with Remo Freuler and Granit Xhaka the midfield partnership. Manuel Akanji looks certain to start, with Fabian Schar, Ricardo Rodriguez and Nico Elvedi competing for the two spots alongside him.Burnley’s Zeki Amdouni is set to to lead the line, with Breel Embolo yet to return from injury, and Xherdan Shaqiri, now at Chicago Fire, will be confident of getting the nod on the right wing.

Predicted Hungary XI: Gulacsi, Lang, Orban, Szalai, Nego, Nagy, Schafer, Kerkez, Szoboszlai, Sallai, Varga

Predicted Switzerland XI: Sommer, Schar, Akanji, Rodriguez, Widmer, Freuler, Xhaka, Ndoye, Shaqiri, Vargas, Amdouni
