Hygge hits Scotland as Søstrene Grene announces three new store openings

Affordable Scandi homewares retailer Søstrene Grene has announced its plans for three new locations in Scotland, with upcoming openings in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Later this year, the retailer will be bringing its signature ‘hygge’ inspired designs to Bon Accord Shopping Centre in Aberdeen, Waverley Market in Edinburgh and set to join its popular St Enoch, Glasgow store, a second venue is opening on iconic Buchanan Street.

Søstrene Grene has over 285+ stores worldwide and aims to open 500 stores globally by 2027. Currently undergoing a major expansion throughout the UK, a further 50 stores are set to be launched by 2027. The brand offers a curated selection of Scandi homewares, soft furnishings, kitchen products, furniture, gifts, crafts and children’s toys including “mini home” products. Offering stylish products at budget-friendly prices the brand is fast becoming the go-to destination for families, students and interior design fanatics.



UK Joint Venture partners, Norma Jacob and Richard Power, who run Søstrene Grene stores across Northern Ireland, Southern England and Scotland, are excited to announce the upcoming openings.

Ms Jacob said: “Following the success of our current Glasgow store, we are thrilled to announce our Scottish expansion with locations in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and a second in Glasgow.”

Mr Power added: “Scotland is a key focus for us, and we look forward to introducing new and returning customers to our upcoming openings. We want to make Søstrene Grene more readily available throughout the country.”

Søstrene Grene proudly demonstrate the Danish concept of ‘hygge’ through in-store experiences and comforting products. Defined as a notion of cosiness and contentment, ‘hygge’ is a key element of the Danish lifestyle contributing to the overall happiness of the nation.

The upcoming Scottish openings will also continue the roll out of Søstrene Grene’s new store model, ‘Retail for the Senses’, a unique shopping experience designed to invoke the senses. Incorporating its labyrinth-style store layout with subdued lighting and classical music, the concept creates a relaxing, free-flowing journey for customers.

Mikkel Grene, CEO and co-owner of Søstrene Grene, said: “We are really excited for our upcoming expansion in Scotland throughout 2024.

“The new stores will utilise our ‘Retail for the Senses’ concept, providing our customers with a fantastic selection of products alongside a ‘hygge’ filled shopping experience.”

Scheduled to launch later this year, the Scottish locations’ opening dates will be revealed shortly.
