‘I felt tricked’ cry tourists after booking ‘hidden gem’ flat – with MAJOR catch

TOURISTS have been left baffled after flocking to a “hidden gem” flat for a city break – only to discover there was a major catch.

A two-bedroom apartment in Aberdeen’s tallest building has left punters divided after the £128-a-night listing became available on travel website Booking.com.

The flat is within the fifteen-storey tower block Greig Court- one of eight multi-storeys built in the Granite City as social housing in the 1970s.

Boasting views from across the northeast city the profile states “this property will not accommodate hen, stag or similar parties”, but suggests “couples particularly like the location”, with it being rated 8.4 out of 10 for a two-person trip.

Described as “stunning” and being located in the “heart of Aberdeen”, the ex-council apartment – located on the 11th floor of the 140 flat block – is available book for short-term stays.

It is listed as having a “High Score” for Aberdeen, and has a nine out of 10 rating from 82 reviews.

The recently renovated flat, based over two floors, also as a living room with a flat-screen TV, a fully equipped kitchen with an oven and a microwave, and one bathroom with a hair dryer.

Towels and bed linen are also available in the non-smoking apartment.

And for added privacy, the accommodation boasts a “private entrance.”

The listing added: “During the colder months, guests can enjoy winter sports in the surrounding area.”

The listing also gives “popular points of interest”, including Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Host Gualberto and Yaritsa urged guests to “enjoy a stylish experience at this centrally-located place”.

Guests were a fan of the quirky listing with the travel agency giving the property their own three out of five star rating.

Dwayne said: “Place was immaculate, great location, great views well worth the money, very impressed with the decor, 5/5 stars”

And Ian thought “The apartment was very comfortable and very clean.”

While Catherine added: “Lovely view from so high up right across the city. Enjoyed our stay for the night.”

Despite the popular reviews, some guests were not too happy with the 1970s concrete build.

One said “felt tricked”, commenting:  “Short stay, uneasy about the location, was not aware of the apartment being part of a high rise, council facility.

“There were not any outside pictures of the flat prior to confirmation.”

Jennifer from Australia said: “The area is very run down.

“The building is very run down. The smell of cigarette smoke in the hallway.”

Emma added: “There was a pot of something in the lift that wasn’t very nice.”
