Idyllic Scottish island seeking person for postie job with £1,500 welcome bonus
An incredible opportunity to move to an idyllic Scottish island and become a postperson has come up.
For anybody sick of the rat race and keen to live a simpler life in a remote setting, there is nothing more dreamy than the thought of moving to a peaceful island and starting over. With a new opening with the Royal Mail on the Isle of Mull, that dream could be a reality.
The postal service is currently seeking a ‘postperson with driving’ in the small village of Bunessan on the Ross of Mull peninsula. With a population of around just a couple of hundred and a tranquil coastal setting, it looks like the perfect destination for those wanting to get away from the noise of modern living.
According to the listing on HiJOBS, the role is permanent and would see the successful applicant work 30 hours per week between 11am and 5pm. The salary starts at £12.29 per hour, which the listing describes as “10 per cent above the market average”, with a “welcome bonus” of £1,500 also potentially included.
Other benefits of the job include 22.5 days holiday per year, an “excellent” parental leave policy, and various discounts including high street vouchers, travel and attraction discounts, and savings on beauty products and gym membership. Meanwhile, the successful applicant will be given “lots of opportunity to develop a career”.
Arguably the biggest highlight of the job, though, is getting to live and work amidst the stunning surroundings of Bunessan. The village is home to a cosy inn, as well as a couple of shops and even the Ross of Mull Historical Centre.
There is also a wealth of scenic walks and beauty spots, both near Bunessan and further into Mull. Among the most spectacular is Kilvickeon Beach, which is around just 12 minutes from the village by car.
Those applying for the position must have a full UK manual driving licence with no more than six penalty points. Candidates must also be happy to walk for long periods and have a “strong sense of community”, as well as be a “friendly face in the community”.
