Inside luxurious glamping pod just 2hrs from Glasgow that TV stars already love

I’VE never been one that considers pitching a tent and sleeping on a hard floor as a relaxing holiday.

But as soon as somebody mentions the words glamping and hot tub, I’m instantly sold.

In this case, it was me mentioning the words to Google as I searched for an idyllic two-night break for me and my partner Chris.

Coorie Retreats is nestled along the beautiful Dumfries and Galloway coast, just a couple of miles from Portpatrick.

The five-star glamping pods have hosted a range of celebs in recent months including Love Island winner Paige Turley.

So I have to admit I was a bit nervous that we’d feel out of place as we rocked up the drive in my battered Ford Fiesta and parked up outside four identical, beautiful cabins.

Two larger domes, which sleep four, were nestled slightly further back in the Wigtownshire countryside.

Armed with the code to our lock box for the keys, we unloaded the car. And as we walked into our cabin any apprehension about fitting in with swanky TV stars instantly melted away.

The rich colours of green and orange inside Bonnie Brae embrace you like a warm hug, everything feels cosy without being cramped.

It was at this point that I truly appreciated the name Coorie Retreats. All I wanted to do was snuggle in on the couch and never leave.

It also had full central heating, a comfy double bed, ensuite shower room and fully-fitted kitchen, and the spacious outdoor area had an automatic wood-fired hot tub, outdoor cooking facilities, including a BBQ and pizza oven and — get this — a home projector cinema!

Owners Eamon and Tomas included a welcome basket to make us feel even more at home too, with a selection of scones, shortbread, crisps and popcorn.

All the glamping units are dog-friendly, so it was good news for our golden retriever Tiger who joined us.

The pods have been set up perfectly for pooches with a fully enclosed outdoor area allowing them space to run around while you enjoy a dip in the hot tub.

So that’s exactly what we did for our first night, as well as firing up the pizza oven for dinner.

As a bonus, Chris was delighted to find the outdoor TV had all the sports packages so I was ‘treated’ to an unexpected game of European football.

The next morning, we woke to heavy rain, but with an energetic dog with us, there was no hiding out in our gorgeous digs so a wet walk through the forest it was.

We had spied a sign for Torrs Warren forest on the quiet back road on the way to Coorie Retreats, and it was only 10 minutes away in the car.

We had a peaceful stroll through the trees to a gorgeous spot named Ringdoo Point overlooking Luce Bay.

Already soaked, jumping in the hot tub on our return to the cabin seemed like the best idea.

It was then a quick five-minute drive to Portpatrick for a wander along the small beach.

GO: PORTPATRICK

PRICES start at £269 per night for a Lux Cabin that sleeps two and £299 for a Geo-dome, also sleeping two.

Bookings include a pre-heated hot tub, welcome hamper with local produce, fire wood, pizza oven pellets, use of Coorie branded dressing gown and slippers and more.

We also treated ourselves to a gorgeous bar meal at waterfront pub, The Crown. Chris opted for the scampi and chips while I had an oversized Yorkshire pudding filled with diced beef, gravy and vegetables. And it was dog-friendly, so Tiger got to come along.

Later that night, it was time for our final dip in the jacuzzi as we fired up the projector screen for a movie. It’s the perfect way to end any evening, even if we did have to pack up the next morning.

The fabulous home from home  is already calling me back for another relaxing and indulgent stay. I can’t wait to get ‘cooried’ in again.
