Inside ‘utterly charming’ Scots cottage on market for less than Edinburgh flat

An “utterly charming” Scottish cottage in a tranquil rural setting has just gone up for sale.

Millers Cottage is a two-bedroom home near the peaceful Aberdeenshire hamlet of Kennethmont. It is currently on the market for offers over just £225,000.

The idyllic property is notably cheaper than many one or two bedroom flats currently up for sale in Edinburgh. Looking at Rightmove, recent homes for sale in the Scottish capital include a one-bed apartment in Shandon for £285,000 and a two-bedroom flat in Leith for £340,000.

Millers Cottage itself, which dates back around 150 years, is set out over two storeys. Its long history can be felt in features such as beamed ceilings, traditional-style doors, and sanded and sealed floorboards.

Stepping inside, an entrance porch leads directly into the kitchen. This homely space is fitted is framed by a window overlooking the picturesque driveway, woods, and hills beyond.

From the kitchen, a step leads through to the lovely sitting room that features a fireplace housing a glass fronted multi-fuel stove. Along with two windows, there is a door that gives access to the peaceful garden.

Meanwhile, a timber staircase leads up to the first floor landing. Here, there is a quiet study area and another door out to the garden.

Elsewhere, the master bedroom benefits from wonderful views out over a waterfall, while it also comes with an en-suite shower room. The second bedroom is also en-suite, featuring an electric shower as well.

Completing the accommodation is an attic room. Accessed via a fixed metal framed stairway, the cosy room is bathed in light thanks to its skylight.

Moving outside, the grounds are mainly laid to lawn and extend through woodland down to the unspoiled Cowie Burn. According to the Savills listing, there is a “feeling of bringing the outdoors in with three external access doors into the garden”.

Property agent Fiona Gormley commented: “An utterly charming cottage, in an idyllic setting. My favourite spot is a seat at the burn. Enormous potential with granted planning permission.”

Additional details and photographs can be found on the Savills listing.
