Jacob Trouba Breaks Silence On Trade Rumors

There have been a lot of rumors this summer surrounding Jacob Trouba and his future with the New York Rangers but we haven’t heard from the captain himself.

Recently Trouba finally broke his silence.

Despite a report coming out stating Jacob Trouba had “hurt feelings” toward the Rangers, Trouba denied that rumor and knows that trade talk is just a part of the game.

“It was fine,” Trouba said, via The Athletic. “It’s part of the business. I knew that part of my contract turned this year (to a no-trade list), and I submitted a list. That’s what I did. All the other noise was pretty much noise. I’m happy to be here. I’m excited to go into the season. Great opportunity ahead of us.”

The Rangers were trying to clear cap space as Trouba was reportedly one of the players Chris Drury was attempting to move.

There was reportedly a deal in the works that would send the 30-year-old defenseman to Detroit, but nothing ultimately materialized.

A lot of the conversation now has revolved around if the relationship between Drury and Trouba is truly fractured.

However, Trouba does not fault Drury for what transpired this offseason and feels the relationship with his general manager is still strong.

“Yeah, they were great the whole time,” Trouba said. “Even going back years prior, me and Dru have always had a good relationship. We can speak to each other when we want to. He has a lot of trust in me, I think, and I’m grateful for that. We’re excited to get started this year.”

It’s great to see Trouba break the ice on this whole situation and put it behind him.

He is the captain and leader of this team, so it’s critical that Trouba feels good about where he stands with the team.

The trade drama is over for now and it’s time to refocus on what actually matters; winning the Stanley Cup.
