James Forrest Celtic future addressed by Rodgers as fitness suggestion raised
James Forrest has been told he DOES have a future at Celtic by new manager Brendan Rodgers.
The winger, 31, struggled for game time last season under Ange Postecoglou as the Australian boss preferred the likes of Jota and Daizen Maeda while Liel Abada was also ahead of Forrest in the pecking order. For Rodgers it’s all about fitness levels and whether or not Forrest can keep up with the expectations and demands of the Northern Irishman.
Forrest was one player in particular who benefitted significantly from Rodgers during his first stint at Parkhead and the 50-year-old feels the wide man can fit in again in his system.
But it’s all about staying fit at his age and Rodgers knows that’s what it will take.
Asked if Forrest has a future at Parkhead he responded: “Yes. James is at the stage of his career where it’s slightly different. For him, it’s all about staying fit now.
“He was such an important player in the squad last time and he was a great guy to work with. I’m looking forward to seeing him again.
“It’s been a challenge for him, but I’ve seen snippets of him where, when he’s fit and ready, he is a fantastic player for Celtic.”
