Jets Notes: Aaron Rodgers dealing with hamstring injury, Jeff Ulbrich anticipating that Haason Reddick plays Sunday

Coming off a fourth straight loss, the Jets are back on the practice fields on Wednesday for a light walkthrough day as they prepare for Sunday’s matchup with the New England Patriots in Foxborough, Mass.

Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich met with members of the media and shared a few key updates on Aaron Rodgers, Haason Reddick, and other roster odds and ends.

Here’s what Ulbrich had to say…

Add hamstring to Rodgers’ list of ailments

Ulbrich confirmed that the Jets’ starting quarterback is dealing with a hamstring injury that popped up during Sunday night’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ulbrich also said there were “a few times” on Sunday night when Rodgers likely could have taken off when the pocket broke down, but his mobility was somewhat limited.

“It is new,” Ulbrich said of the injury. “Something that kind of flared up this past game, so they’re going to assess it all week long, he’s going to treat his butt off like he always does. I don’t anticipate this affecting him playing.”

Rodgers was already dealing with injuries to his ankle and both knees, and now he has a hamstring issue in the mix as well, which certainly doesn’t bode well the 40-year-old, despite Ulbrich saying he doesn’t expect this to affect Rodgers’ availability to play.

Reddick’s status for Sunday

The edge rusher is finally back with the team following his prolonged holdout. Now that he and the Jets have agreed to a restructured contract, Reddick will practice this week, and Ulbrich anticipates that Reddick will be able to play on Sunday, barring the unexpected.

“We do have a full speed [individual period on Wednesday], so that will be our first assessment of him, his movement, his conditioning, and then it will be just how quickly he can get up to speed with what we do,” Ulbrich said. “Today will be a walkthrough, a little bit of assessment in [individual drills], and tomorrow will be a full-speed practice, and we’ll get a much better feel of where he’s at.

“I would anticipate he plays. He’s an experienced player. He’s played in a similar defense to ours, so as far as the schematic stuff that he’s got to get caught up on, I don’t think that’s going to be a huge struggle for him, so now it’s just seeing where he’s at physically.”

Other injury notes

Guard Xavier Newman has been placed on IR with a neck injury. Newman was carted off the field after sustaining his injury while trying to make a tackle on a Rodgers interception against the Steelers.

Elsewhere on the offensive line, guard Alijah Vera-Tucker is not practicing with an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, the Jets officially opened tight end Kenny Yeboah’s 21-day practice window. Yeboah was placed on IR in late August due to a groin injury. The Jets now have 21 days to activate him, or keep him on IR, which would end his season.

Additionally, veteran safety Jalen Mills was signed to the active roster, and offensive lineman Alec Lindstrom was signed to the practice squad.
