Joey Essex is reporting more than 100,000 ‘threatening’ online messages from alleged stalker to police

Reality TV star Joey Essex has said he is going to report an alleged stalker after receiving “threatening” online messages.

The 34-year-old claims he has received more than 100,000 public and private messages from one user, some of which appear to threaten his girlfriend Jessy Potts who he met on reality dating show Love Island.

“We have had to take the decision to report the stalker to the police because the messages have started to become more threatening,” he said.

“I love my fans and want to be able to talk to them online but there has to be a line somewhere and sadly this is it.”

Essex’s team is expected to speak to police later on Thursday to launch a formal investigation, The Sun newspaper reported.

The person alleged to have sent the messages has not been named.

Essex, who rose to fame on reality show The Only Way Is Essex, entered the Love Island villa as the first celebrity contestant.

He met Potts on the show but the pair were voted out by the public a day before the final, which saw Mimii Ngulube and Josh Oyinsan crowned winners.

Essex has previously starred on the UK and Australian editions of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, Celebrity MasterChef, Celebs Go Dating and Dancing On Ice.

Representatives for Essex have been contacted for comment by the PA news agency.
