Kenny Miller identifies biggest problem facing Rangers for Celtic cup final
Kenny Miller reckons Rangers‘ hopes for the Scottish Cup final hinge on stopping Celtic – and that’s a problem for them.
In order to take home the trophy and secure a double, preventing the Hoops from their own twin success, Gers must do what they haven’t managed all season and beat their rivals. Across the Premiership season, their was one draw and three Celts victories in the Old Firm derbies.
The Light Blues have started poorly in the majority of matches and allowed their rivals to impose themselves on the fixture with their key area of the pitch being midfield where they can control things through Matt O’Riley, Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate.
Miller identified that as the area of the pitch where Celtic must be stopped and reckons Rangers’ task generally is just to minimise their threats all over the pitch. The fact that Philippe Clement’s side must focus on that instead of what they can do themselves is a “concern.”
The former striker of both sides told talkSPORT: “There you go, that’s the million dollar question. I’m glad it’s not me that actually has to come up with a game plan to do that. Because that area of the pitch has been on fire for Celtic with McGregor, Hatate and O’Riley, the combinations. It has been the difference in the games over the course of the season, particularly the last one.
“So it’s a case of stopping them and that’s the thing for Rangers, which is a concern actually, that you’re now always looking at how to stop Celtic rather than looking at how to impose your game onto them. Unfortunately I just think that’s where Rangers are at this moment in time.
“I just think they might need to make the game a bit ugly, they might need to try stop Celtic and disrupt the game and find a way to win which is something they’ve not managed to do over the course of the season.”
