LOMOND LYNX RARING TO GO AHEAD OF SCOTTISH CUP DEBUT – Cricket Scotland

Lomond Lynx are looking forward to their first-ever foray into the Beyond Boundaries Women’s T20 Scottish Cup on Sunday, when they face East Kilbride at Scroggie Park.

The Lynx, who compete in the Women’s Challenger League, will be taking the step-up to face Women’s Premier League opposition in the quarter-finals, in their first game in the competition.

It’s an exciting opportunity for the Falkland-based side to test themselves, as Coach Neil Keddie said:”It’s a really exciting opportunity for us to be competing in the Women’s Scottish Cup on Sunday, and it’s testament to how quickly the women and girls set-up here has grown in recent times.

“Eilidh Green has been the driving force behind the Lynx, and it’s all grown very quickly over the last year to get to this point, where we’ve probably got a core of around 20 training regularly with us, from all over the Fife area.

“The Wee Bash’s were the starting point of establishing the team, getting them to play together and have fun, and they’ve all taken to the transition to hard ball really well.

“Playing in the Challenger League over the last 12 months has been fantastic in helping with that transition, and providing them with more opportunities to play, and continuing to have fun whilst doing so!

“The really exciting thing is that some of our players have had the opportunity to go down and play with RHC in the Women’s Premier League, and they’re all just getting so much cricket at the moment, which is fantastic to see.

“We’ve got a young group of players, but they’re all desperate to play as much cricket as they can, and to continue to improve and grow as cricketers.

“We’ve had several players involved in the Cricket Scotland regional and pathways set-ups, and it’s so encouraging to see the progress that they’ve made in such a short space of time – Caitlin-Rose Neil, Amelia Rowe and Skye Green in particular are doing great things at the moment, and are players to watch out for!

“On Sunday we’ll have Emma Halliwell captaining the side, who plays at Falkland and at Stewart’s Melville, and has represented Scotland A, and she’s a real leader and role model for the rest of the group. She helps out with the coaching as well, and the younger players all love her, so her extra experience will be invaluable for them going into a game like this.”

Lomond Lynx play East Kilbride in the Beyond Boundaries Women’s T20 Scottish Cup on Sunday 7 July.
