Eager fashion fans queued from 4am on opening day to access to the innovative and high-quality brand which had taken over the former BHS store on the capital’s Princes Street.

And now UNIQLO has turned its attention to the west coast, with a new mega store announced for Glasgow.

It is understood the 22,500 square foot store will be located in the St Enoch Centre on Argyle Street, between the entrance to the centre and H&M, The Herald reports.

Founded in Yamaguchi, Japan in 1949 as a textiles manufacturer, UNIQLO is now a global brand with over 2,000 stores around the world.

The brand is known for its LifeWear clothing, with the new store selling innovative, high-quality products for all genders, kids and babies.

UNIQLO officially open its doors in Scotland on Thursday, April 25.

Speaking last November, Alessandro Dudech, CEO of UNIQLO UK, said: “It’s an honour to be opening in not only a new city but a new country, Edinburgh is a city of great cultural and historical heritage, we have many existing Scottish customers who shop through our e-commerce site, and Edinburgh has such a strong footfall from both locals and tourists.

“UNIQLO is proud to be expanding our presence in this important retail location, we look forward to bringing LifeWear to Scotland in 2024.”

UNIQLO plans to open 10 stores in Europe in 2024, with a further 15 in 2025 and 20 in 2026.

We previously told how the Edinburgh store even has a tearoom – making it just the second  UNIQLO in the UK to have a cafe in-store.

Developed in partnership with Japanese eatery Katsute100, the space will offer customers Japanese inspired refreshments on the first floor, overlooking Princes Street Gardens and the spectacular Edinburgh Castle.

Meanwhile, there will also be a RE. UNIQLO Studio where customers can recycle, repair or remake their favourite UNIQLO items so they can keep wearing and loving them for longer.

In partnership with Scotland’s other national drink, Irn-Bru, customers can add Bru-themed embroidery pieces to their UNIQLO items for a limited time only, until the end of May 2024.
