Man Utd inadvertently give Scotland major boost after signing 16-year-old star

AUSSIE superkid James Overy’s Premier League move is good news for Scotland.

Right-back Overy, 16, sparked a tug of war — with Manchester United now set to sign him ahead of Everton and West Ham after he left Perth Glory last season.

However, that also brings him closer to ‘home’, where he would be keen to play for his mum’s country.

The SFA were looking at the defender before.

But the logistics of flying him in from Australia on a regular basis proved too big a handicap.

Overy isn’t the only youngster United have got their hands on.

Last week they completed a deal to sign 14-year-old Silva Mexes from Ipswich.

The ace is the son of Premier League legend Robert Earnshaw.

And Mexes was handed the No7 shirt after joining United’s academy.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils hope to strengthen their senior squad after bidding farewell to Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane.

A new centre-back is high on the agenda, with Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah appreciated.

United could also move for a new midfielder and full-back.

But they risk losing Bruno Fernandes, who has refused to commit himself to Old Trafford, with his agent “in talks with Bayern Munich”.

Fans are also waiting to see if Erik ten Hag remains in charge despite winning the FA Cup.
