Misleading Celtic Jota Article Appears In Scottish MSM | Latest Celtic News

The Scottish mainstream media enjoy this time of the season, where all sorts of rumours and hearsay can be bandied around as news. It’s transfer window season and while we do enjoy a good rumour, we always try to caveat any story with where the report has come from and the likelihood of it happening.

However, an article from the Daily Record on Tuesday has stirred the pot with claims that Jota might be on his way back to Celtic. This claim lacks substantial evidence, if any at all and has prompted us to set the record straight – pun intended.

The article titled “Jota to Celtic transfer return rumour explodes in Saudi as Al Ittihad fans rage at ‘surprising behaviour‘” suggests that Jota is looks poised for a return to Celtic due to alleged discontent among Al Ittihad fans and a purported clear-out of his Instagram, leaving only a farewell message to Celtic.

However, a 3-second check of Jota’s Instagram account contradicts this narrative; all his posts are intact, including those from his time at Al-Ittihad, where he continues to play.

Furthermore, the article leverages comments from a handful of Twitter users, who are critical of Jota’s performance and are keen to see him leave. That’s what made the Celtic return rumour. Telling a player to go back to the club he came from has given the Daily Record this article. It has no basis in reality and is highly misleading.

This selective representation of fan opinion is further problematic, as it does not necessarily reflect the broader perspective of Al Ittihad supporters, nevermind provide a concrete basis for speculating about his return to Celtic.

This type of journalism, which capitalises on the emotions of football fans to drive clicks and engagement, can be misleading. It feeds into the endless cycle of transfer rumours that often disappoint fans and misrepresent the facts. The situation with Jota is a prime example of how speculative articles can create unnecessary drama without substantial evidence.

It’s crucial for publications like the Daily Record to uphold standards to maintain credibility and trust among their readership.

Fan media sites, like CeltsAreHere, strive to ensure that the information we publish is as accurate as possible, and don’t fall into these traps of making up rumours with next to no evidence of it. We’ll always tell you where the rumour has come from, our own opinion on the rumour and we do try to stand these things up when possible.
