Motorcyclist who died after crash named by police

Police Scotland has named a motorcyclist who died after a crash on the A837 in Sutherland on Wednesday.

Jeremy Weekes, from Newquay in Cornwall, died after a crash at around 11.05am involving a black BMW GS1250 motorbike and a black Honda VFR motorbike.

Emergency services were called to an area near Loch Assynt and the 61-year-old, who was driving the BMW, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The rider of the Honda, a 60-year-old man, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. His condition is described as serious but stable.

Sergeant Calum MacAulay said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Weekes at what is a very difficult time.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and anyone who can assist and who has not yet spoken to officers is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1207 of Wednesday, May 22.”
