My recycled jewellery draws on two worlds

A self-taught jeweller has been telling how his Scottish Pakistani mixed heritage and interest in history has been key to inspiring his designs.

Sonah Chaudhry’s most popular products include a chunky ring reading “AYE” and hands which are carved in wax before being casted in silver.

Precious metals such as silver and gold can be melted down to be reused and Sonah hunts down gems and metals in auctions and antique shops.

The 25-year-old also built his studio in an old caravan in Dumfries and Galloway, using wood and even old kitchen counters for the workbench.

He said: “Creating jewellery is kind of a tangible connection to the past. And I study history and I love everything shiny.”
