Nairn Synchro swimmers make a splash to win Scottish Club Championship

NAIRN Synchro made a real splash as they were crowned champions at the Scottish Artistic Swimming Club Championship.
The squad of eight swimmers came out on top to claim first place at the competition in Dunfermline.
The club held on to their title that they won last year, as they lifted the Mary Black Rosebowl for points, free solo and free duet as they took the overall title.
The squad consisted of Isla Allan, Calle Christina Cameron, Freya Charters Rosa Clark, Eleanor Fryer, Abbie Lee, Anna McGregor, Michelle Marie Savage and Emily Simmons.
Head coach Wyn Shearer says it was a terrific performance from the squad who deservedly claimed the Scottish Club Championship once again.
She said: “We took down eight swimmers, we put in three soloists and four duets to compete at the competition.
“We claimed first place in the solo competition and second and third in the duets which was enough points to win the overall competition which was tremendous.”
Nairn Synchro was first established in 1987 and train at Nairn Leisure Centre as well as occasionally at Inverness Leisure Centre.
It has 18 members at present with ages of the athletes ranging from nine to 17.
Members are not just from Nairn, with Shearer saying girls travel from far afield to take part in artistic swimming.
She said: “We have members from Cromarty, Croy, Inverness and Forres as well as Nairn who are part of the club.
“Training is technically demanding for both technical and free routines.
“There has been rule changes brought in by swimming’s governing body FINA that makes things even more difficult.
“But the girls are top athletes and deal with them with no problem at all.”
Nairn Synchro are now preparing for a display being held in August followed by a technical competition which will take place in Nairn in September.
The club will then compete at the National Championships in October.
