NCAA To U Sports: 7 Players Making The Move This Season
U Sports hockey gets better and better each season with powerhouse programs like Concordia and British Columbia continuing to grow and lure top prospects to stay in, or return to Canada.
At times, players from the NCAA also look to come closer to home, or find new academic and athletic opportunities, and each summer several players make the move from the NCAA to U Sports. Here’s a look at six players jumping from the NCAA to U Sports next season.
Kasundra Betinol – Colgate to British Columbia
Betinol will be a big addition for the already strong University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. Betinol already has four seasons of NCAA hockey with the University of Minnesota-Duluth and Colgate University under her belt. Last season with Colgate the forward notched 13 points in 40 games. She’s also represented China at two World Championships and the 2022 Olympic Games.
Devyn Millwater – St. Cloud State to British Columbia
The 21-year-old defender returns to her home province. Devyn Millwater spent the past three seasons patrolling the St. Cloud State blueline in the WCHA. She’ll be a crucial contributor on the University of British Columbia’s backend. Millwater grew up playing her minor hockey in BC, including represent her province at the U-18 national championships. Last year with St. Cloud State she had four points, and was +11 in 34 games.
Sydney Lynch – Merrimack to Ottawa
The 20-year-old Brampton product spent two seasons at Merrimack but didn’t see a lot of time, recording a goal in 22 games over two seasons. She’ll have a chance to develop and play with Ottawa, who has been churning out solid players in recent seasons. With Jennifer Wakefield at the helm, Ottawa could soon become a destination team.
Su Yeon Eom – St. Lawrence to Ottawa
Speaking of Ottawa, Su Yeon Eom comes to Canada’s capital from St. Lawrence University where the defender spent the past four seasons where she played 114 games. Eom has also represented South Korea at the World Championships and U-18 World Championships, as well as at the 2018 Olympic Games.
Alexis Bedier – Penn State to Concordia
A solid contributor for Penn State over the last three seasons, Bedier is going to make the powerhouse Concordia Stingers stronger again. She’ll help soften the blow of graduating players. Last season Bedier, a 21-year-old Calgary product notched 11 points in 38 games for Penn State.
Catherine Foulem – Boston University to McGill
A New Brunswick product, Foulem is coming off four strong seasons with Boston University including serving as an assistant captain last year. Her offensive totals increased each season culminating in a 22 point campaign last year for the Terriers. She’s sure to be an impact player with McGill.
Paige Hull – Clarkson to Western
The Western Mustangs women’s hockey team will get a boost this season from former Clarkson athlete Paige Hull. Recruited for the 2022-2023 season, Hull notched three assists in 26 games as a rookie for Clarkson. She didn’t play in the 2023-2024 season but is set to get back on the ice next season in U Sports. The Whitby, Ontario product spent her final seasons of junior playing for the Kingston Jr. Ice Wolves in the OWHL.
