Newport in talks with Mansfield over Evans sale
Newport County striker Will Evans looks poised for a move to newly promoted League One club Mansfield Town.
Newport are in negotiations with Mansfield over a fee and it is understood a switch is close to being finalised.
Newport always expected interest in Evans this summer and triggered an extension on his contract at the end of last season.
Evans netted 21 goals in League Two last season, despite the club finishing in a lowly 18th position in the division.
As early as January then manager Graham Coughlan confirmed there had been approaches for the 27-year-old former farmer from Llangedwyn.
Earlier this summer Newport chairman Huw Jenkins admitted he had had to knock back interest from two League One clubs in the Wales C striker.
Now Evans is on the brink of moving to Nigel Clough’s Mansfield, who are back in the third tier for the first time since 2003, having finished third in League Two behind Stockport County and Wrexham.
Former Cardiff Met player Evans joined Newport from Cymru Premier League side Bala Town in May 2022.
Evans backed up his impressive league tally last season by scoring in the 4-2 FA Cup defeat to eventual winners Manchester United, finishing with 25 goals in all competitions.
