Notre Dame vs. Texas A&M: College football Week 1 games, scores, updates

It’s the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, which means the full chaos of college football has truly arrived.

No. 1 Georgia got things started with an absolute show of force, blasting No. 14 Clemson 34-3 in their season opener. Heisman favorite Carson Beck was on point throughout the marquee showdown, throwing for 278 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

No. 19 Miami handled in-state rival Florida in the afternoon window as new QB Cam Ward threw for 385 yards and three touchdowns in his debut.

Elsewhere, No. 4 Texas and No. 8 Penn State both took care of business. Arch Manning tallied the first touchdowns of his career in cleanup duty as the Longhorns rolled Colorado State and PSU QB Drew Allar looked very comfortable in the Nittany Lions’ new offense in a win over West Virginia.

Follow the rest of the action on Saturday night below.

Notre Dame doesn’t shy away from tough openers, and this is no exception. Saturday night is QB Riley Leonard’s first game in a Notre Dame uniform after transferring to Duke, but he’ll be playing behind a revamped offensive line that lost three starters from 2023. First-year Texas A&M coach Mike Elko brings a defense that has lots of new faces but is still plenty talented. And QB Connor Weigman returns as the Aggies’ starting quarterback with the goal of staying healthy for the whole season.

Live124 updates

  • Michigan tacks on a field goal to extend its lead to 13-3 over Fresno State, but it’s been a bit of a struggle offensively for the Wolverines and QB Davis Warren, who started today over Alex Orji.

Oddly enough, Orji has Michigan’s only TD pass on his only attempt of the day. He’s mostly been used as a RB otherwise.

  • UNLV is having its way with Houston, which entered as a slight favorite.

UNLV leads 24-0 late in the 3rd.

  • Tied at the half

It didn’t go anywhere for Notre Dame. The defenses have held strong as neither team has found the end zone so far.

  • Notre Dame INT!

Notre Dame’s Xavier Watts picks off Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman, his 2nd pick thrown today.

The Irish will have 46 seconds to get into scoring range before the half.

  • Another halftime check: No. 6 Ole Miss leads Furman 52-0

    • Mississippi QB Jaxson Dart: 22-27, 418 yards, 5 TDs

    • WR Tre Harris: 8 catches, 179 yards, 2 TDs

  • So it’s 42-0 at halftime in Tuscaloosa and here are some stats:

    • Jalen Milroe: 4-of-6, 169 pass yards, 3 TDs (49 rushing yards, 1 TD)

    • Justice Haynes: 4 carries, 102 yards, 1 TD

    • Ryan Williams: 2 catches, 139 yards, 2 TDs

    Again, it’s halftime.

  • Notre Dame ties it up again

The Irish had the ball inside Texas A&M’s 10 but couldn’t do anything with it and settled for a short field goal.

  • Dillon Gabriel is not having an easy debut thus far for Oregon. He suffered a finger injury in the first quarter and now he’s fumbled the ball away as the pocket collapsed under pressure from Idaho.

  • Interception Notre Dame!

Notre Dame’s Adon Shuler picks off Conner Weigman. The Irish have the ball deep in Aggie territory.

  • UCLA’s first game as a member of the Big Ten isn’t going well.

  • Final: South Carolina 23, Old Dominion 19

The Gamecocks put it to bed with an interception ended Old Dominion’s last hope. South Carolina avoids a major upset in Week 1.

  • Jeanty goes off for Boise State

Boise State pulled away from Georgia Southern for a 56-45 win thanks to a beastly performance from RB Ashton Jeanty.
