OG Anunoby’s career night helps Knicks to commanding bounce-back win over Nuggets
The Knicks bounced back to defeat the Denver Nuggets 145-118 on Monday night at Ball Arena.
Here are some takeaways…
– The Knicks were disappointed with their effort in their loss to the Utah Jazz on Saturday night, but they responded nicely in this one and dominated the Nuggets from the opening tip. New York established a double-digit lead less than two minutes into the contest and they never looked back.
– OG Anunoby has been establishing himself as one of the top two-way players in the game this season and that was again the case in this one. The star small forward simply couldn’t miss as he finished with a career-high 40 points on 16-of-23 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 from behind the arc while reeling in five rebounds and four assists.
– Karl-Anthony Towns responded from one of his poorest showings as a Knick with another strong outing. Even with the tough matchup against Nikola Jokic, the All-Star big man put together another double-double as he hauled in 14 rebounds and topped the 30-point mark for the seventh time this season.
– Jalen Brunson continues to wheel and deal for this high-powered offense, as he set a new career-high with 17 assists to go along with 23 points on the night. New York also set new franchise records for assists in a half (23) and total game (45).
– With Josh Hart in foul trouble and the late lead, Miles McBride saw an extended run off the bench in his first game back from a five-game absence with a left knee injury. The backup shooting guard shook off some early rust to finish with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field.
– Even with Deuce back in the mix, veteran point guard Cam Payne continued his strong play off the bench, as he dished out five assists of his own and knocked down a pair of threes of his own to help him finish with 11 points.
Game MVP: OG Anunoby
Chants of ‘OG’ rained down often in Denver as the star small forward put together one of his best offensive showings as a Knick, finishing with a career-high 40 points.
