Olympic gymnastics live updates: Simone Biles wins gold on vault, Stephen Nedoroscik eyes medal on pommel horse

An Olympic icon and a breakout star headline the gymnastics competitions at the Paris Summer Olympics on Saturday as both the men’s and women’s individual apparatus finals get started. On Saturday’s ledge in Paris are the men’s floor exercise, women’s vault and men’s pommel horse.

Simone Biles finished first in the women’s vault final on Saturday, winning her seventh Olympic gold medal overall and third of the Paris Olympics.

Teammate Jade Carey won bronze, giving the U.S. two places on the medal podium. Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade earned silver with her performance.

With her seventh gold medal, Biles added to her case as arguably the greatest Olympian of all time. Earlier in these Paris Olympics, she led Team USA to a gold medal in the team competition and then won a second individual all-around gold medal. She’s the oldest woman to take the total and just the third two-time winner.

Sharing the spotlight for Team USA is Stephen Nedoroscik, who has also already collected some hardware of his own, winning a team bronze medal with the U.S. and tying for the best score in men’s pommel horse qualifying. He is also viewed as a near-lock to make the podium and win a potential gold medal.

    USA’s Jade Carey scores a 14.466, which gives her a place on podium. She will finish with bronze, giving the U.S. two places on the medal stand.

    Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat wins silver (after winning gold in Tokyo) and Great Britain’s Jake Harman earns bronze.
