OVERNIGHT RESURFACING WORKS ON A1 – BEAR Scotland

  • 10 nights of works from 10 – 21 June 2024

Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland, will undertake 10 nights of carriageway improvement works on the A1 at two locations between 10 – 21 June.

Works will take place between the hours of 19:30 and 06:00 each night with diversion routes in place.

Resurfacing works are planned at the following locations:

A1 Bowshiel Northbound (2 miles south of Cockburnspath) – Monday 10 to Friday 14 June- The A1 will be closed Northbound while the works take place, with a diversion route signposted between Eyemouth and Tower Farm following the A1107. This diversion will add nine minutes and 1.2 miles onto affected journeys.

A1 Dolphingstone Northbound Onslip – Monday 17 to Friday 21 June – The A1 will be closed northbound while the works take place, with a diversion route signposted between Dolphingstone Junction and Wallyford Junction, following the A199 and A6094. This diversion will add five minutes and 0.3 miles onto affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will enhance the driving experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
