Owen Beck Birmingham transfer approach as several EFL clubs chase Celtic target

Birmingham have made an approach for possible Celtic target Owen Beck, Football Scotland understands.

The left-back, 21, is back at Liverpool after wowing on a season-long loan with Dundee. He performed so well for Tony Docherty’s top six surprise package that Brendan Rodgers was interested in taking him on in January, but an appearance for the Reds during a brief time back with them ruled that out. It meant he could only then play for his parent club or the Dee and a loan extension was soon announced.

Rodgers will still be looking for a player in that position with Greg Taylor still the only senior player in the squad, with no-one added in the end in January and Alexandro Bernabei leaving on loan. But Football Scotland believes Beck has moved down their shortlist.

He was one of the signings of the season in the Premiership and immediately hit the ground running in dark blue and earning call-ups to the Wales squad. He went on to score twice and assist four times for Docherty’s men from left back. A groin injury kept him out towards the end of the season.
