Pub named south Scotland’s best independent bar

Heather and David Coulter both attended the glittering showpiece ceremony at the Double Tree by Hilton in Glasgow and watched in amazement as the Pleuchie’s Howff appeared on the four big screens as the overall winner.

“So to see your name flashed up on the big screens was a bit surreal.
“It was a shock to see that you have come out on top.”
David added: “It was a total surprise.
“You don’t think you’re in with a chance of winning – but clearly we got that wrong!
“We were delighted and amazed to win – it was absolutely fantastic. From a personal perspective it was a reward for Heather and all the hard work she has put into the place.
“We have a great group of regulars all within walking distance – this is as much a reward for them as it is for us.”
Elsewhere across Dumfries and Galloway, The Kenmuir Arms in New Luce won the best newcomer prize, while finalists and winners of highly recommended commendations included The Vault Arts Centre in Newton Stewart (best events venue), The Garret Hotel in
