Rangers stand-ins vs Hearts rated as 6 audition for Celtic cup final starts

It might not have meant much in terms of the league, but Rangers had to try and put on a show today for their fans ahead of the Scottish Cup final.

Hearts looked keen to spoil those plans as, like against Dundee, the Gers started slowly and went in behind at the break. But Philippe Clement’s side saved their best for the second half and scored three quality goals through Ross McCausland, Todd Cantwell and Fabio Silva. The Jambos turned into party poopers again though by coming back from 3-1 down to draw the game with Kyosuke Tagawa scoring deep into stoppage time.




The Light Blues have started poorly in games against Celtic already this season and will have to try and avoid doing so again at Hampden. Amid a litany of injuries and suspensions, they’ve had some fringe men playing in the last couple of games and that was the case again today.

Ross McCausland was the stand-out but here we assess the performances of all of them.

Could have been a lot better but the youngster hasn’t had a lot of game time and so can be forgiven for perhaps being slightly rusty.

The centre halves didn’t cover themselves in glory for the opener and Davies is the experience one who should be leading in those situations.

Youngster handed his first start at left-back after appearing off the bench through the week and acquitted himself well. Yutaro Oda was lively and in the mood but Fraser dealt with that reasonably well.

Surely in with a shout for the final and there are plenty who feel he adds something to the Gers midfield. Nothing spectacular today but a strong enough showing in the middle of the park keeping things ticking over.

Busy down the right and created a couple of chances early on, one of which Dessers really should have scored to give the winger an assist. Later scored a brilliant goal so really staked his claim for the final.

Didn’t do a whole lot which, coming after a good cameo against Dundee, is the story of his Rangers career.
