Ranking the 10 Best Kings of All Time: #6 Rob Blake
Next up on the list of the 10 greatest Kings of all time is Rob Blake. He now serves as the team’s general manager (GM); however, before that, he was one of the best defencemen to ever suit up for the organization.
During his first 12 years with the Kings, he was instrumental in their success. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to win the Cup. However, they did make it to the 1993 Stanley Cup Finals but lost to the Montreal Canadiens.
Blake would serve as the Kings captain after the organization traded Wayne Gretzky to the St. Louis Blues in 1996. He would go on to win the Norris Trophy in 1997-98, and in 2001 he would be traded to the Colorado Avalanche.
He would later return to the organization in 2006, but at 37 years old, his production wasn’t the same. At the start of the 2007 season, he was named captain for the second time in his career.
After Blake’s playing career came to an end, he would eventually take a job with the Kings’ organization as the team’s assistant GM. In 2017, he was named the team’s GM and vice president.
Blake will always be remembered as a dominating force who will be in the top five best blue liners in Kings history for years to come.
