Red Wings Prospect Can’t Stop Putting Up Points

They sure know how to pick their Swedes.

The Detroit Red Wings have an embarrassment of riches as far as prospects are concerned. Chief among them are two 2025 World Junior Championship standouts, Trey Augustine and Axel Sandin-Pellikka.

The former has been Team USA’s number-one goaltender, while the latter has been the top dog on Team Sweden.

Sandin-Pellikka has built upon his impressive SHL season with a team-leading performance at this year’s World Junior Championship.

Leading Scorer In WJC

Sandin-Pellikka is building on his great SHL season with a standout performance at the 2025 World Junior Championship. Team Sweden finished the tournament round in first place for Group B after winning all four of their games.

And Sandin-Pellikka played a huge part.

The Swedish defender finished the tournament as the leading scorer with eight points in four games. The 19-year-old also finished with 25 shots, while averaging 20:42 of ice time per game.

Team Sweden’s captain led the way for his team. They will play Latvia in their first game of the medal round.

Impressive Point Production In SHL

Sandin-Pellikka is having one of the most impressive SHL seasons by a defender. Right now, he’s producing at nearly a point per game. That would be impressive enough if he was a forward but, let’s not forget, he’s a defenseman.

In 25 SHL games he has 22 points. While averaging 20:50 of ice time per game he’s fired 72 shots on net.

Despite missing four games (so far) due to the World Junior Championship, he’s tied for second in team scoring while ranking second in average time on ice.

Red Wings fans better not forget about Sandin-Pellikka. The Red Wings knocked it out of the park with this pick.

How Swede it is.
