Red Wings Recall Very Interesting Goalie

Well, wouldn’t you look at that?

From training camp till now, the Detroit Red Wings have had quite the carousel in their net. Cam Talbot, Ville Husso, Jack Campbell, Alex Lyon, and Sebastian Cossa have had to play one large game of goalie musical chairs.

However, injuries are rearing their ugly head and (unfortunately) making some decisions easier.

Late last night, the Red Wings recalled Campbell under emergency conditions.

Campbell had joined the NHLPA’s Player Assistance Program at the beginning of October and returned to the team on November 17. At that time, he was put on waivers and subsequently reported to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Since he hadn’t played this year, it took a few weeks of practice to get acclimated before playing a game. Last weekend, Campbell made his season debut with the Griffins.

The Griffins lost both games Campbell started before this emergency recall. However, he posted solid numbers, including a 2.55 goals against average and a .919 save percentage.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Husso will start today’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Talbot and Lyon are injured, but the duo should return to full health within the next week.

Depending on how things go with Husso in net tonight, it’s possible that Campbell doesn’t play a game before he needs to be sent down. Or he might get an opportunity to face one of his old teams.

Either way, the Red Wings situation in net is something to closely monitor as the season drudges on.
